The Japanese car maker has announced the launch of the new look Honda Civic, next year in 2012. The Civic has got a face lift and looks promising. The Honda Civic 2012 is slightly taller and has a higher ground clearance than the current car, but on a whole is quite similar to its predecessor, Civic 2012 has a very similar roofline, similar window pane and similar ‘pop-out’ mirrors.
Not only this, the orientation of the headlights and grille on the nose is similar too. Inspite of many similarities the car is very different. The interior is completely fresh. There is a steering wheel with steering mounted controls; the central console is tilted towards the driver. The new car has triangular high mounted tail lights a higher and shorter bootlid, and the rear bumper is more substantial as well.
The 2012 Honda Civic has a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine with 139 hp at 6,500 rpm and 174 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm, with a 5-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive, all are quite similar to its predecesssor. The Honda Civic will have an improved fuel economy, and will draw buyers.
The new features include a new Intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) standard on EXI and VTI, which displays a wide variety of driver’s selected information including Audio, Trip computer, Fuel economy, HFT, and Clock. The display can also be personalised by uploading a wallpaper of choice. An Econ mode is standard on all grades to help improve fuel efficiency by controlling the AC compressor load and changing the engine throttle characteristics. Also, in choosing to drive in an Econ mode, it helps improve the driving habits by observing the ambient lights guide.
The use of aerodynamic components like a sealed under floor and wheel flaps will be made and Honda may carry over their ECO Assist technology as well. The latter is an on board information system that helps the driver improve fuel economy by as much as 10 percent. This beautiful and elegant new Honda Civic price is expected to be around Rs 12-15 lakhs.
What you have to do is, just wait till the year ends. The segment is currently dominated by the diesel counterparts – Chevy Cruze, Skoda Laura, VW Jetta & Toyota Corolla Altis. We would be much excited if we could see Honda bring a diesel variant along. For Indian market only cosmetic changes won’t do good – the value conscious Indian customer needs much holistic return on its investment.
